Going on a vacation is fun, especially if you get to stay in a nice hotel or AirBnB during your trip. But if you’re like most people you probably can’t get a good night’s sleep when you’re in an unfamiliar room. Did you know that 80 percent of travelers have a hard time falling asleep when away from home? Lack of sleep can make you irritable and hotheaded, and you don’t need that negative energy when you’re on holiday. Thankfully you can use Feng Shui to get some zzzs even when you’re far from home. Here are some Feng Shui tips to improve your sleep quality while on vacation.

Choose a Hotel Room With Windows

When booking a hotel room, make sure to ask the concierge to place you in a room that has windows. This way you get lots of natural light. Staying in an enclosed dark room results in an overabundance of Yin energy which may lead to depression or anxiety. Also, staying in a dark room may cause you to feel uneasy and this can cause nightmares later on.

Balancing the Yin and Yang is a primary goal of traditional Chinese medicine. However, you can also apply this to your hotel room to get better sleep. To balance your hotel room’s energy, offset the Yin by turning on a warm light source like a tableside lamp. You can also carry a small framed picture or artwork that has bright and vivid colors and display it in your hotel room.

Note Where Certain Objects are Facing

Hotel owners who’ve consulted Feng Shui experts when designing their interiors know that mirror placement is a key factor when decorating rooms. If you’re looking for accommodations that consider these aspects, you might consider staying at Sonesta Hotels near Morris Plains which are known for their well-thought-out interior design. If they’ve done things right, you’d never see a mirror directly opposite your bed since doing so can create feelings of unease and stress. This can lead to sleeplessness or poor sleep quality. If this is the case in your room though, try moving your bed if you can. The goal is to move it so your reflection won’t be caught in the mirror while you’re sleeping. You can also cover the mirror with a blanket, a scarf, or a towel if moving it isn’t doable.

You should also check to see if the corner of the night table is pointing directly at you while you’re in bed. Note that the negative energy from this can interfere with your sleep. To block its effect, either cover the point with a pillow, a scarf, or a hand towel.

Get The Chi Flowing

One of the best ways to get a good night’s sleep while on vacation is to ensure that the chi, or life force, is flowing throughout your hotel room. Open the windows to get some positive chi into the room, and light a citrus candle during the day to clear the air. At night, light a lavender candle to promote relaxation. Also, make sure to keep your bathroom door closed so that the chi doesn’t go down the drain.

If your room is designed in such a way that the toilet and shower are visible from your bed, this could disrupt the flow of good energy that promotes deep sleep. Water energy can disrupt sleep, so to remedy this, close the bathroom door. Tie a brown or green scarf on the handle of door to activate the earth element and counteract the water energy.

Getting a good night’s sleep in a hotel room can be a challenge. But with the help of Feng Shui, you can improve your sleep quality and be in a better mood so you can enjoy your vacation.
