Dear Kartar Diamond: I live in a studio apartment so naturally my space is limited. The best spot for my trash and recycling bins happens to be in the entryway and near the front door. I purchased and built a pullout cabinet counter thing to hide the bins inside. Is it ok to keep them near the door if they’re hidden? Or should I find another spot for the bins? Thank you so much!!

Answer: You asked about the best location for a trash bin with limited space in your apartment.  People often ask a similar question when it comes to where to place a kitty litter box.  In Feng Shui philosophy, we don’t want to have our senses assaulted by something objectionable, including first thing your eyes land on when entering your home.  This is just common sense as well.

It’s just the plain truth that some people have limitations where they live and they will not be able to find an ideal location for certain activities or inventory. In your case, where to put the trash.  You might want to make a habit of taking out the trash on a daily basis, to help reduce that amount of “sha qi” in your entrance.

Before asking the question, it sounds like you have considered all kinds of other locations.  And I’m sorry that you don’t even have space below your kitchen sink, which is a common area for a trash bin.

While I don’t think anything terrible will happen to you by placing trash (concealed) near your entrance, it is not ideal and there may be no other resolution to your situation. That being said, there might easily be fifty different things that are more important than the location of your trash.
