Hi Flory,
Yep. Sometimes Feng Shui is instincts that are written down. It applies to situations and environments where you have a certain feeling that is hard to describe. Feng Shui sometimes describes those feelings in plain words.
As for the hexagram, do you mean the Bagua? If so, see it as a symbol used to describe people, events, etc. See it as another language that the ancients used to describe the world, similar to how modern day coding (html, javascript, etc) is used to describe computer programs.

Hey Kopitian, quite the contrary, I know a little about the destiny from a cultural perspective and the knowledge of Bazi, and I do NOT regard it as complete superstition. The reason why I’m not writing about it is because I don’t have enough knowledge and data/case-studies, and I cannot use science or other modern knowledge to prove its effectiveness. It’ll be great if you can share your personal experience!

I am more concerned about my destiny than good fengshui. If my final life journey is represented by an auspicious I-Ching hexagram, any house I move in my luck will harmonize with the fengshui in the house and its surroundings. If it is an inauspicious hexagram, there will be no family harmony let alone prosperity. I can understand you have to adjust your judgement and recommendations accordingly to suit your American audience and I know you feel uncomfortable upon hearing this and will most probably dismiss it as absurd and superstitious but it is true from my personal experience. Among the 64 I-Ching hexagrams there are 8 auspicious and about 10 inauspicious hexagrams. I am not suggesting you do nothing.
